Miniature Garden Shed Room Box
Completed on August 8, 2013
The inspiration for this room box started with a photo frame I got at a resale shop. The inside and outside of the box is wrapped with two different dollar store place mats. My cat, Timmy, in the background is my Project Snoopervisor. :D
The floor was made using self adhesive vinyl flooring cut into squares. The grout is a mixture of sand and glue. The garden bench and shelves were made with illustration board and balsa. I purposely made some of the shelves appear warped to add to the illusion of aged outdoor wood. I used several paint colors to layer in an aging effect.
The flower drying frame was made with balsa and thread. I would test fit the pieces in the box as I made them. In the miniature world there doesn't need to be a lot of space between objects. I try to pack as much into a space as possible for visual interest.
I added dried floral bundles to the frame. The sink basin is a small jelly container. The drain is part of a snap. The faucet is a grommet, painted tape, foil, and a piece of plastic sprue from a model car kit (the sprue is the part removed from model pieces before they are assembled.)
The seed box and packets of seeds are printables. So is the newspaper, potting soil bag and magazine.
I used a container for diabetes test strips for the garbage can.
The "soil" is coffee grounds. After finishing the detail items on the potting bench and sink, I glued the pieces into the box.
The signs are printies on very thin balsa. I added more visual interest objects to the bench and shelves.
I added some tools and some gardening quotes signs to the walls. I decided the sink needed to have a plant in it, so I created a "sickly" looking plant to put in there. The gardener hasn't given up on it and will take care of it when the bench is cleared off a bit.
I used dowels, Perla beads and fun foam to make the bottles and cans. On the outside of the frame I added two hanging baskets. The frame was then glued to the front of the box.
